JACKSON'S 2nd BIRTHDAY
Part 1
My sweet little boy recently turned 2 years old on August 20, 2009. I can't believe he is already that old. It just seems like we brought him home from the hospital just the other day. It is amazing to see the transformation he has made over the last couple of years going from a wee little baby to a toddler just about ready for anything. He is so active and talks so much. He understands almost everything we tell him. If he doesn't understand, he gives this look as if he is trying to figure it all out. Everyday I give God thanks for blessing me with such a fun spirited, happy, and sweet little boy who is very independent. Today he can count to 11 and he knows his ABCs. He loves to read books and sing songs. It is so precious to here him going around the house singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or "Old McDonald" amongst many others. He loves airplanes, Mickey Mouse, balls, and his mommy and daddy. One of the things that just melts our hearts is when Jackson says "I love you (Mommy/Daddy)!" I do occasionally miss the little baby I could hold in my arms for forever, but this time in Jackson's life and so much fun. Seeing the world through my child's eyes is so enlightening and refreshing. I hope one day he will truly understand just how much his mommy and daddy loves him. Word of advice to new parents out there: Each and everyday you are blessed with being with your child, love and enjoy them dearly.
So what did we do for our big 2 year old on his birthday you ask, well a lot of things. So much that we had to break it up in a two part blog. The day before his birthday, Chad and I took cupcakes up to his daycare. There weren't very many kids in his own classroom that day, so we shared with the adjoining room. All the kids enjoyed their cupcakes. To my surprise, Jackson didn't actually want his though. I think he was afraid we would leave him at daycare because he wanted me or Chad to hold him the entire time we were there.
That night, we went to watch the Texas Rangers play the Minnesota Twins with our friends (the McKibbens). This was Jackson's first Rangers' game ever. I was very shocked that my husband bought us all Rangers' t-shirts to wear to the game. Usually that is not his thing to all dress alike, but it was for Jackson and the love of the game. Our seats weren't too bad, but thanks to another friend, he hooked us up with his company's suite. It was right behind home plate and had free food. Jackson was a little overwhelmed by everything at first, but he did watch the game for a good long while. To our surprise he actually did very well. Unfortunately, the Rangers were doing well the first half, but then lost by the time it was all said and done.
The next day for Jackson's birthday, we went to the Dallas World Aquarium. If you have never been there, it is great. One of the best things about it is everything is inside, so you don't have to worry about hot/cold or raining weather. Jackson had a great time. We saw monkeys, birds, fish, manatees, sharks, turtles, flamingos, a sloth, otters, frogs, snakes, spiders, etc. You name it, we just about saw it. That night we celebrated Jackson's birthday at home with just the three of us. We had cake, then opened his presents. He loves the toy airplanes Chad got for him from the American Airlines Museum. He also really likes his toy golf set (which was the cheapest thing bought). Isn't it funny how kids can enjoy the least expensive thing you get for them.
